Unlike the actors playing him in some recent movies and TV shows, Henry VIII had RED HAIR.
She was executed with a sword in 1536, when she failed to bear her husband, Henry VIII, a son. Accused of incest with her brother and adultery with six men, she bravely stood trial. There was no proof of guilt. All confessions presented in the trial were extracted through torture. Her daughter, Elizabeth, became Queen Elizabeth I of England in 1559.
Just imagine how long it took Elizabeth I to learn how to sign her name!
This picture inspired me to become a historian. I had to find out more about this solemn girl, dressed like an adult at thirteen, whose mother, Anne Boleyn had been executed in 1536, when Elizabeth was three years old.
